About Naan

Kibbutz Naan is located in the center of Israel, 40 minutes from both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and 20 minutes from Ben -

Gurion international airport.

Four generations live together on the kibbutz: grandparents, parents, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There are about 800 members, 200 children and 40 residents who are not members.

Naan covers about 750 hectares, of which 650 are used for agriculture, 80 for residential and public areas

and 20 for other purposes.

The community has nurseries for newborn babies, kindergartens, a junior school and clubhouses for the young children

 and teenagers.

The children are brought up in an atmosphere that encourages strong ties to the environment

and their community. From a young age, they participate in community events and festivities

and are involved in all aspects of community life.

Naan also absorbs children from neighboring communities into its school and pre-school system.

The kibbutz dining room serves as a daily meeting place for members of the community who work on the kibbutz.

The kibbutz has health and nursing services, clothing, gift and grocery shops, and public buildings

for social and cultural events: a clubhouse-gallery, two open-air amphitheaters, a museum, and a cultural center.

Naan’s culture integrates Jewish heritage with Israeli culture, adapting them to the unique character

of Naan and the talents of the people who live on the kibbutz.

The community celebrates Jewish holidays and national events uniquely and creatively, incorporating art,

graphics, music, theater and dance.

Kibbutz Naan was established in 1930 by a youth group from the Noar Haoved, who found that as a group,

they could achieve more for themselves. The 42 founding members worked in the orchards of Rehovot,

the neighboring town.

Working Naan’s land was made possible after 24 hectares of land were bought from the Jewish National Fund (JNF-KKL).

The young pioneers built three cabins for living quarters, a clothes storeroom and a dining room.

They also bought five cows and a pair of work cattle.

From this point onwards, the kibbutz continued to develop and absorb new members – Sabras as well

as immigrants from all over the world. Each new group brought its own unique tastes and cultures,

creating a diverse society that formed its image through constant interaction with its external environment.

Naan’s members were, and continue to be, partners in building up the country,

constituting part of the Zionist entity involved in defense and battle, in culture and in the economy.

Naan has adapted itself to the new technological era, and is keeping up with the changing needs of the community.

Naan owns two-thirds of NaanDan Irrigation Systems, an international company that develops,

manufactures and markets advanced irrigation technologies. The kibbutz also has extensive agricultural fields,

a dairy farm and a partnership in citrus production.

The Kibbutz members are Israeli citizens, with all the accompanying rights and obligations,

and the community is run in a fully democratic process.

Kibbutz Naan is a tranquil, green, ecological environment, which places emphasis on education and culture

 for a rich community life.
